The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer is Warner Bros.’ biggest debut ever after surpassing 15 million views in 24 hours on Warner Bros.’ YouTube channel.
The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer is the biggest debut ever for Warner Bros. A sequel to Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong will see a showdown between the monster movie icons in the fourth installment of the MonsterVerse. Directed by Adam Wingard, the film will see Millie Bobby Brown and Kyle Chandler reprising their roles from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, along with a cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry. The movie is one of Warner Bros.’ 2021 movies that will release in theaters and on HBO Max the same day in March as part of the studio’s latest release plan.
Godzilla vs. Kong’s trailer finally debuted this weekend ahead of the film’s highly anticipated March 31 release. The trailer gives fans an exciting look into the first big-screen battle between Kong and Godzilla since the 1962 crossover movie King Kong vs. Godzilla. However, unlike that film, Godzilla vs. Kong is expected to have a definitive winner between the two creatures, and the trailer makes it clear that Kong is the hero and Godzilla is the villain of the movie. The trailer begins with Kong in chains as it’s established Kong is needed to protect mankind against Godzilla. Before too long, an epic battle begins between the monsters atop an aircraft carrier, with the characters finding themselves in the path of the destructive Godzilla. The trailer has certainly generated excitement with footage of epic action sequences, and its performance online has broken records.
The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer has become the biggest debut ever for Warner Bros., surpassing 15 million views in 24 hours. Twitter user Luiz Fernando shared in a tweet that the trailer reached 15.8 million views in 24 hours on Warner Bros.’ YouTube channel and 9.8 million on Legendary, Warner Bros. UK, Godzilla vs. Kong and HBO Max’s Twitter accounts. With 25.6 million on all platforms, Godzilla vs. Kong has even beaten The Batman’s 22 million views and Dune’s 20.8 million. Check out the tweet below:
Another tweet shows that 24 hours in, the trailer is still trending at no. 2 on YouTube, pointing out that the trailer has reached over 27 million views on Warner Bros.’ Youtube channel, with over 1 million likes. With Warner Bros.’ strategy of giving all 17 of their 2021 movies simultaneous releases on HBO Max and in U.S. theaters, Godzilla vs. Kong will be one of the only blockbusters out over the coming months as multiple major 2021 movies continue to be delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Godzilla vs. Kong looks to potentially explore more of Godzilla’s backstory while featuring some epic battle sequences, so it’s not surprising that the first full-length trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong has been so successful. With the promise of a big blockbuster hit finally coming out soon in a time where there have hardly been any big movies, fans are likely now even more eager for the movie’s release.
